Most caps you take on a trail were designed for standing around. Stiff foam front, tall crown that catches wind, thick sweatband that holds every drop of sweat until it runs into your eyes.
This one was designed for walking. The crown is soft and unstructured, so it sits low and close to your head instead of standing up and catching air. The brim is deliberately short — long enough to keep the sun off your face, short enough that it never blocks your view of the ground when you're looking down at your footing.
The back half of the crown is full of holes
Not a mesh panel sewn on. The nylon itself is laser-cut with hundreds of small round holes in an even grid, so the fabric stays one continuous piece while the heat coming off the back of your head goes straight out. Hold it up and you can see daylight through it.
The nylon is lightweight and quick-drying, so a sweat soak or a rain shower dries out while you keep moving instead of sitting wet on your head. It also weighs almost nothing — roll it into a pack pocket and it comes out fine.
